IDER (International Disaster and Emergency Readiness/Response/Recovery/Resilience) established itself as the leading international forum where specialists in crisis management and disaster readiness meet to develop effective disaster avoidance, readiness and response techniques and strategies. It is the annual conference, with exhibits, where best practices and solutions to ensure readiness for, response to, recovery from and resilience for disasters and major emergencies, whether caused by nature, accident or terrorism are identified, implemented and shown.
The anniversary 10th IDER is being hosted by MSB (Swedish Civil Contingencies Agency) and will take place on Tuesday 20th and Wednesday 21st October 2009 at the Värmlands Museum, Karlstad, Sweden.
At IDER 2009, Lina Kolesnikova is invited to speak on public transport and acts of terrorism. Public transport systems are a well known target for terrorists as evidenced by the attacks in recent years in Tokyo, Moscow (and some other Russian cities), Madrid, London and Mumbai. Public transport systems, which are by nature, open systems, are extremely difficult to protect. The threat therefore remains very high.
This presentation focuses on how to best utilize each agency’s resources when responding to catastrophic events on public transport systems. What lessons have been learned, or at least identified, from previous attacks and how should the resulting recommendations be incorporated into future contingency planning for public transport systems.
After IDER 2004 and IDER 2006, it is the third time Lina Kolesnikova speaks at IDER.
